Hello. I am the founder and director of the Rio Grande Counseling Center. I am bilingual and bi-cultural. I attended the University of the Americas in Cholula, Puebla, Mexico for three years, and have my undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Education from Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. Through my years as a private practitioner, I have acquired extensive experience in working with children, adults, and families in transition, family conflicts, school or work conflicts, victims of trauma and general challenges in life. I have an extensive background in Play Therapy and am a past president of the local and state Play Therapy Associations. I co-authored several treatment manuals for sex offenders including the "Ventura", "Paso a Paso," and "Chaperone Training" Manuals for chaperons of adults and adolescents with sexual behavior problems. I have also published "Sana, Sana", a cognitive behavioral treatment manual in Spanish for victims of sexual abuse. I have presented locally, nationally and internationally on a variety of subjects including treatment of sexual abuse victims, families, and perpetrators, play therapy, counseling techniques and marriage and family therapy.
My therapeutic approach is multi-modal and integrative, mostly using Person Centered, Systems, Cognitive Behavioral, Trauma Focused, and Therapeutic Alliance models. Using different modalities of treatments helps me focus on the patient and their needs, allowing me to be present and understanding of the impact systems has in the patient’s environment. In therapy, we address behavioral change, increase coping skills, attend to past trauma, and improve quality of life and relational connections as part of meeting therapeutic goals. I advocate for a respectful and culturally sensitive therapeutic relationship.
I am also a supervisor offering supervision to associates seeking licensure for Licensed Professional Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, and Registered Play Therapist and provide assessments for immigrants seeking documentation for remaining in the United States.

I enjoy working with children, teens, adults, and families who may be dealing with trauma and experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. To connect with my clients, I use various interventions tailored to their individual needs. I create a nurturing and fun environment where children can express themselves through play.
My counseling approach is based on compassion and empathy, and I use expressive activities and mindfulness to help clients achieve their goals. I believe therapy should be a collaborative process between the client and the therapist. I work with clients to help them understand how their emotions and attachment patterns play an essential role in their lives.
As a therapist, I aim to support you wherever you are in your journey. I strive to help my clients find their inner strength, identify coping skills, and achieve healing. I believe people can grow and find healing when they feel safe, accepted, and connected in healthy relationships.
